Ghostchant – Shards [EP 2014]

20 lutego 2014 | By | No Comments

Extremely pleased me a message that members of the great Hungarian bands – Bridge To Solace and Newborn formed a new band. In connection with the aforementioned connotations , do not have to worry about the level of these publication, because as you know, these are the sure marks. However, it should be noted that the nature of the Ghostchant music is different to the previous projects. While the BTS and Newborn were rotating in climates more melodic hardcore / metalcore, here we are dealing with a lot darker and more brutal stuff. This does not mean the total disposal of the melody, but it is given in a different form. Blackened hardcore is probably the best description Ghostchant style . While listening to this rather short material scroll through my head the following names: Hollow Earth , Heaven Shall Burn , Nasum , and even Watain . The songs are very diverse – not lack a climatic redundancies , sinister sounds connected with black metal style (especially in ” Devoid / Disposed ” ), on the other hand blasts and feisty hc / punk motility . All served with extraordinary taste. Also the sound is very decent – without modern sintetics, we can feel the space in batches of two guitars. My favorite track was first published on the web – ” Shards ” . I have listened it pretty much on bandcamp before they left the whole EP and even I can already play it in a memory :) . The nature of this song reminds me of an „Fury” by Nasum , especially because of the dynamics and timbre vocals and way of phrasing . Vocalist operates fairly smoothly throaty and characteristic high screaming / screeching . You can hear that his parts are arranged in a thoughtful manner , without senseless race to fit in a given verse . You can not on this occasion not to mention also of great lyrics, which in a very neat way to express disappointment at the order of the modern world, consumerism, greed , etc. For me it is debut of the year for now and I look forward to more releases Ghostchant.

Pandemonium – promo

16 stycznia 2013 | By | No Comments

Godz ov War Productions – 2010 – Poland

My first encounter with the name of Pandemonium has already occurred in the days of elementary school. Cousin, who was „educating” me at the beginning of my musical path- she told me about the concert that took place in our native little town many years ago. In the hall of her high school then played Pandemonium. Later I met with the cd „Devilri” and Domain, considered by many people to be the continuation of this team. I will say frankly that, despite great respect for Paul and team achievements of the company, I never could get sucked into their music enough to go back to it regularly. Somehow I found hard to wade through flooded in old-school sauce, clearly inspired by bands the likes of Samael stuff. Pandemonium is back with new album ‚Misanthrophy” which release Pagan Records, and the subject of reviews are just two songs from that disc. First, pay attention to the extremely aesthetic and professional form of promotion, which is pumped promo edition in digipack. As for the music itself-by virtue of the fact that in recent times more and more pull me slow and mournful music varieties (doom, sludge, etc..), The more curiosity, I started for listen this material. Numbers contained on this cd listening to pretty good, like everything is in place. There is darkness and dirt, melodies in strong balck metal convention, well-built climate (paranoid chants in the background), but I miss some of the point here, which would makes me totally excited and then I would say „god damned, this is it.” It is possible that these two songs are something like sentence being out of context and „Misanthrophy” as a whole is able to defend. I mentioned the black metal influence. It’s hard sometimes to determine whether it is just death or black. Structures of some riffs, temp, background vocal expression or evidence of a black art, inspiration, and the music itself is very sleek mirage of these two species. Vocal parties are very interesting. Boorish low vocals of Paul, is at the moment supported by various types of spawn, hooting and conquer in the background. In these two pieces drew the most attention to tip the „Black Forest”, which is very good well screwed by supporting the various guitars. Technically there is nothing to attach, all playing well, but may have gained the same wording for clarity would strongly emphasize the guitar / tuning them a little heavier sound. But I also do not know whether this type are agonizing on the spot. The intent was to be tarry, old-school, grim, full of misanthropic atmosphere-and is, therefore Polish death metal fans early 90s should feel free to reach for this material.

Passiv Dodshjalp – Hang House

16 stycznia 2013 | By | No Comments

2010 – Sweden

Passiv Dödshjälp is a five guys from Sweden who decided to play characteristic hardcore for their region – very crusty, dirty, and based on the rock` n `roll feeling. But at the beginning a few biographical facts maybe. Gentlemen from the city of Gavle, and its playing began in 2007. A year later they released in Halvfabrikat records their first 8-track demo on CD-R. Nextly came the time for release shared with the Norwegian band, all the same worthy – Livstid, this time in the format of 7`.

„Hang House” brings us 12 (plus intro) fast numbers, which rarely exceed the limit of 2:30 minutes. As mentioned above, we won`t hear here cleaned for hours, in the best studio, sound. In this regard, the musicians have focused on traditional punk filth, which in this music as much as possible and in fact works hard to imagine this production in the more sterile form. Although the raw sonic envelope (which of course has an undeniable impact on the very atmosphere of the disc), the music is great and defends itself from the outset and a surprising melodic moments even assertiveness. Passiv Dödshjälp strikes, however, bluntly, without further ado and unnecessary musical masturbation. Typically, the punk-rock ‚n’ roll bands fantastic riffs combined with an extremely addictive melodies in the background. The whole is maintained at a fairly fast tempo, although there are always interesting to go here, monumental reliefs, or detention, so that the material is even more valuable. The music perfectly complements the unbridled aggression charged, dirty hue of deep scream.

To sum up – if someone likes to hear d-beat style of Victims, Disfear or Skitsystem – this LP is definitely for him.

Unearth – Darkness In The Light

16 stycznia 2013 | By | No Comments

Metal Blade Records – 2011 – U.S.A.

Unearth has always been for me one of the best teams from the mainstream metalcore and often listened to / listen. So the news about the new album and paws rubbed Americans waited impatiently for what this time fathered. I admit frankly that I am not able to clearly respond to this board. Certainly in my view, this is not their best album. „The Oncoming Storm”, „III: In The Eyes of Fire”and last,” The March „convince me of the first hearing. This time is different, some pieces of” Darkness In The Light „I do not like, and quite often I find myself that the „Scrolling” them. The main occupation in this case is the introduction of the element to which I set at least skeptical – clean choruses. Metalcore is a genre so interesting that some teams are able to use this patent in a surprising way and balanced, but In most cases we are dealing with pop wail. And sadly, I must say that there are several such moments as in „Last Wish”, „Overcome,” „Shadows In The Light.” The album opens up great, „Watch It Burn” sung also in the party, but it is for me an exception to the rule, because on this track is a nice development of the tracks (though if it was not, rather I would not cry hehe.) conclude, therefore, this topic already, throw in a loose yet thought that flashed through my head after the first hearing, jealous of success Unearth As I Lay Dying and Killswitch Engage and wants to have more teenage female fans:). Besides this aspect, many innovations do not exist. Still the band walks the path of metalcore Iron Maiden-art based on the melodic mass party, guitar-solo dialogues, etc. It is still his big advantage, because in conjunction with the brutal breakdowns, typically `core drive and aggressive, extremely recognizable vocals Trevor Phipps `a` and created something unique and often obscure in this trend. Admittedly, there are missing pieces here even sentimental („The Fallen”), but they are to swallow a small amount. Unearth the album also proved that a team of incredibly creative and inventive, because for years sitting in the same place do not seem to complain about a deficit of ideas. The very nature of the composition of their positive charge, seems to show, with the bulk and lightness which they were created. I immediately heard, like great fun for guitarists of this band is to play their instruments. Sounds CD is, of course, as usual, professional, and not kid ourselves, any setback in this regard could not have come into play. Despite the shortcomings I mentioned at the beginning, this is a very good album. Surely I`ll come back to this, but not „swallow” it whole .

Strike Each Other – Keep The Thing You Need

16 stycznia 2013 | By | No Comments

Self-released – 2010 – Ukraine

In Ukraine, despite appearances, there are quite well developed hardcore scene. From time to time I find interesting formations from our neighbors and Strike Each Other is one of them. Already two-track promo announcing full album gave high hopes and I must say that not disappointed. Young guys of Ternopil acquitted great on his debut, they gave us a good piece, heavy beatdown `classics of the genre and in climates like Nasty, In Blood We Trust and Circle Of Death. It is known that the above still a little lacking, but the direction is good. The material is maintained primarily in medium tempo interspersed with plenty of exemptions. I like the cool, rough sound – a well-balanced blend nicely with the guitar section, which in this species and its characteristic rhythmic riffs is especially important. There are also thought-harmonics which intersect each lick. Vocally, we are dealing with a torn, deep cry mixed sometimes with singalongs parties. Overall, this is not a revolutionary release, I’d say even that relatively simple even for this genre. However, given the length of the musicians, very neatly worked out the wording and for sure large loads of emotion invested in this music, I think that this is a very valuable Cd. I think the skills and experience will allow some time for the guys from Strike Each Other to join European leaders of beatdown.

Maigra – End Of Process

16 stycznia 2013 | By | No Comments

Self-released – 2009 – Poland

Polish scene is becoming braver in exploring new sounds and exploring styles that have long been hip than ever triumphs in the west, and, paradoxically, are not too popular in our country. Maigre derived from Lower Silesia attacked by the debut material, which should satisfy the supporters of progressive, unconventional sounds. At the „End of Process” you can hear echoes of so noble acts like Meshuggah, Animal As Leaders, Cynic given in the specific form of a climate. Music of Wroclaw surprises not only technically advanced formulations, but also the multi-dimensionality and … grip. The latter element is primarily responsible psychedelic melody that rips fantastically in the background of regular, heavy rocking. Therefore, one can see some analogies to the atmosphere that exists in tracks of Blindead. The aforementioned weight of responsibility is extremely well-ripped the rhythm section. Stand out above all lots of bass, sounding quite oryginal-up clearly and clangly. Also the vocal side has not been addressed with neglect. I like not only specific, color hysterical scream, but the layout and the way the party divisions of the music itself. An interesting solution was also publishing the same track „Devil’s Spine” in two languages version – English and native. It is also worth napokmnąć about the video, which the band recorded the „Biological Death Of My Soul” – very professionally executed and interesting storyline. „End of Process” has set the bar high and I look forward to the full album Maigry, because as yet it is one of the strongest debuts of last years.

Ingested – The Surreption

16 stycznia 2013 | By | No Comments

Siege of Amida Records – 2011 – United Kingdom

Ingested is the one of my favorites bands on the UK death metal scene. Split with Kastrated and Crepitation, then a great album, „Surpassing the Boundaries of Human Suffering” made it readily took to the crosstalk of the new CD of them. Once again, I am very satisfied with the proposal they have prepared. Awesome, modern-sounding, at times slammming brutal death metal with some core inclinations shows incredible potential of this team. The trakcs contained in „The Surreption” are not boring and you can hear that they are thoroughly thought out. Evidence of this whole mass of different types of transitions and unusual accent, which was instrumental in a fantastic influence on the dynamics of the whole. Ingested musicians create music that sounds incredibly powerful and technically advanced. Vocally little guys put weight on more screams, but this has no negative impact on the reception, as they are skillfully blended with lower growls, which as usual rule. It also introduces a new element in a hardcore `singalongs” (another part for the benefit of the diversity of the disc). Of course, once again they play a significant crushing large dose of relief that even explode between the parties frantic blasts:). Here we have both parties breakdown`s, damped slams and death metal typical discharge`s. The second full album Ingested really keeps the high level and will certainly satisfy fans of bands like Waking The Cadaver and Aborted (and are definitely better than them).

Misery Index – Heirs To Thievery

16 stycznia 2013 | By | No Comments

Relapse Records – 2010 – U.S.A.

Sincerely, I did not expect such a good album. After the brilliant „Traitors” I thought it was time for a small reduction in the form, that the guys from Misery Index will not be able to jump the bar bet the previous record high. Nothing could be further from the truth! „Heirs Thievery” is a record of at least the same level, if not even better. Very intense, diverse and brutal. This team is one of the few on the scene of extreme, that does not devour its own tail, does not know the word monotony and made his typical patent for death metal. Death metal influenced by hc and grind. This concept of mixing genres, again, brings excellent results. The first number on the album „Embracing Extinction” is a total destruction – a beautiful, „free” passage, a fantastic feeling, and rare in the multidimensionality of death metal (melodies meet aggression). All of these features are present in such every composition on this album. Of great importance in the perception of this album without difficulty means a tempo style of playing implicitly Adam Jarvis. Plenty of solutions, unique ideas, and also a huge precision, amazing lightness and play material simply puts into silence. Misery Index is a great band to both parties extremely fast, as well as unusual exemptions or moderate, otherworldly pieces like „The Illuminaught. Arrangement pieces are perfect, thoughtful, mature, without unnecessary sounds. I love not long solos, which also appears here, in the relevant moments of the composition. Drums with crushing fresh riffs are perfectly complementary. I`m glad for worked out good bass, adding a much „density”. Grip of the composition depends also on a professional vocal timetabled. In addition – style of growling Kloeppela and Netherton are both full of rage and clarity. That’s how they are chosen words, verses, „backing” vocals leave a trace in memory, and after repeated hearing of the individual parts simply wanted to hum under his breath. Sound, from what we encounter on this CD is not significantly different from that of the „Traitors”. Maybe just a bit more selective, but she remained very similar specificity. Moreover I have heard opinions that the new disc in a straight line is a continuation of its predecessor. It`s truth I think. Generally speaking, style of Misery Index goes in my tastes perfectly. Ingenious combination of my favorite genres in the „Heirs …” makes me close once again to recognize album of this band as the best CD of the year.
