SUICIDE SILENCE’s New Album Will Contain Some Of MITCH LUCKER’s Final Lyrics

23 lutego 2014 | By | No Comments

SUICIDE SILENCE's New Album Will Contain Some Of MITCH LUCKER's Final Lyrics

Heavy music presenter Christina Rowatt of Soundwave TV conducted an interview with California deathcore masters SUICIDE SILENCE earlier today (Saturday, February 22) at the Brisbane stop of this year’s Soundwave festival in Australia. You can now watch the chat below.

SUICIDE SILENCE recently entered the studio to begin recording its new album with producer Steve Evetts (SEPULTURATHE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLANWARBRINGER). The group’s first CD with new vocalist Hernan „Eddie” Hermida (ex-ALL SHALL PERISH) will be released next summer via Nuclear Blast Entertainment, a division of Nuclear Blast Records formed by Nuclear Blast owner Markus Staiger and former Roadrunner A&R chief Monte Conner.

SUICIDE SILENCE singer Mitch Lucker died November 1, 2012 after sustaining injuries in a motorcycle crash in Huntington Beach on Halloween night.

According to Hermida, SUICIDE SILENCE‚s next CD will include a song containing some of Lucker‚s final lyrics. He said: „We have a song on there. Mitch left behind some lyrics, and we actually incorporated it into a song. It’s about him being bigger than life, you know what I mean?! It’s about finding that true resilience within yourself to keep going, which really means the world to us, ’cause, obviously, that’s what we’re doing. It came out very beautiful.”

„We never talked about continuing and we never talked about quitting, so it was like an unspoken thing, ’cause with some people, a tragic happening, the last thing you want to do is talk about it,” SUICIDE SILENCE guitarist Chris Garza told Music Feeds.

Ultimately, Garza explained, carrying on as SUICIDE SILENCE felt like the right thing to do. „I think keeping the SUICIDE SILENCE brand going and the name going keeps Mitch alive and I think it would be completely disrespectful to Mitch and everything that he worked for if we stopped going or changed the name,” he added.

„This record will be the grittiest, most meaningful piece of work we’ve ever stood behind,” commented guitarist Mark Heylmun. „We cannot wait for everyone to hear it.

Steve Evetts is someone we’ve worked closely with for a long while, not only on ‚The Black Crown’, but also on some instrumental demos just prior to the tragedy last fall. Here we are a year later prepping to record the nastiest, heaviest, most disgusting work we’ve ever done. Expect the unexpected.”

Regarding the direction of the new material, Heylmun told U.K.’s Metal Hammer magazine: Eddie is quite a versatile vocalist and he’s willing to experiment, so we’re definitely exploring the horizons, but don’t expect anything less than pure brutality throughout.”

Randy Blythe (LAMB OF GOD), Robb Flynn (MACHINE HEAD) and Max Cavalera (SOULFLYCAVALERA CONSPIRACYSEPULTURA) were among the „surprise” guests who performed with with the surviving members of SUICIDE SILENCE at a special show on December 21, 2012 at the Fox theater in Pomona, California as a tribute Mitch Lucker. All proceeds from the event went towards the education of Mitch‚s six-year-old daughter, Kenadee Lucker.

The Pomona concert was professionally filmed for a DVD, „Suicide Silence – Ending Is The Beginning: The Mitch Lucker Memorial Show”, that was released on February 18 in North America and will be made available March 17 in Europe as a CD/DVD digipack and CD/Blu-ray combo pack.

SUICIDE SILENCE 2014 is:

Hernan „Eddie” Hermida - Vocals
Chris Garza - Guitar
Mark Heylmun - Guitar
Alex Lopez - Drums
Dan Kenny - Bass

Katatonia guitarist ‘Sodomizer’ exits band

23 lutego 2014 | By | No Comments

It’s only been four years since Per ‘Sodomizer’ Eriksson joined Katatonia. Now the guitarist, who was heavily involved with the band’s 2012 album Dead End Kings, has left the band. In a statement on the band’s website, the band states that while he’s no longer in Katatonia, he’s still in Bloodbath. The statement is as follows:

It has been some time coming but guitarist Per ‘Sodomizer’ Eriksson and Katatonia have now mutually agreed to part ways. Per joined the band in 2010 as a live session player and after some substantial touring quickly became a steady fixture being heavily involved in the recording of Katatonia’s 2012 critically acclaimed studio album Dead End Kings.

A difference in views on the band’s current operative as well as last year’s decision from Per to permanently live in Barcelona have made his involvement in the band too problematic, both for him and for the remaining band members. They part ways as good friends and on a related note, his position within the death metal “super-group” Bloodbath remains unchanged and he will soon join his fellow band members in the studio to record their 4th album to be released on Peaceville records this fall. Katatonia’s upcoming ‘Dethroned & Uncrowned’ Tour will go ahead as scheduled and will see none other than Bruce Soord (The Pineapple Thief, Wisdom of Crowds) as a special guest taking on guitar and vocal duties.

While he’s listed as a special guest, that doesn’t mean that Soord is a permanent member. Then again, neither was Sodomizer when he joined, and Katatonia (at least over here) is a lot more well-known than his other bands. Guess we’ll have to wait and see. The Unplugged and Reworked tour will be touring Europe starting in May. You can check out the dates here.

At The Gates Post Full ‘Slaughter Of The Soul’ Documentary Online

23 lutego 2014 | By | No Comments

Returning death metal icons At The Gates have uploaded their awesome 2006 Slaughter Of The Soul documentary in full.

The half-hour film follows the recording of the Swedes’ genre-defining 1995 album, which went on to become a huge influence on both death metal and countless bands to emerge from the late 90s and early 00s US metalcore scenes.

Watch it below:

In particularly pant-wetting news, it was finally confirmed earlier this year that At The Gates will be making a brand new studio album, expected to see release near the end of this year.

A statement from the band reads as follows:

“So, here we are almost 24 years since the birth of At The Gates, and some 18+ years since our latest album Slaughter Of The Soul,” comment the band in a statement. “A lot of years have passed and we have embarked on some life-changing reunion tours and shows the last couple of years.

“So, why make a new album you might ask, and why now? Well, what we learned from the last couple of years hanging out and playing shows together, is that we enjoy what we do to the fullest extent. We love playing music together, and we love to hang out as friends. But, as a musician, we constantly write new music. It’s a huge part of our identities. We are fully aware that we have made some very drastic statements in interviews as well as the closing words on the DVD about the longevity of At The Gates, but things change, situations change and people change. When Anders sent the first song last summer, we had zero expectations of the outcome. We only knew one thing – That it sounded amazing! At the time we weren’t even sure there would be an album, but as things progressed, more songs came into existence, and we knew we were on to something great.

“We know you are all curious about the new material, and to make a simple explanation of where we are at musically, we would describe it as a perfect mix between early At The Gates & ‘Slaughter of the Soul’-era At The Gates, trying to maintain the legacy and the history. We chose Century Media as a worldwide partner for the upcoming album. We have all been friends for years with people at the label. Jonas & Anders have a history with The Haunted there (as well as Adrian with Paradise Lost).
So, we hope to bring you updates about the progress of the new album soon. The plan is to record the album in June/July with a tentative release in October / November of 2014 on Century Media Records.”

Ghostchant – Shards [EP 2014]

20 lutego 2014 | By | No Comments

Extremely pleased me a message that members of the great Hungarian bands – Bridge To Solace and Newborn formed a new band. In connection with the aforementioned connotations , do not have to worry about the level of these publication, because as you know, these are the sure marks. However, it should be noted that the nature of the Ghostchant music is different to the previous projects. While the BTS and Newborn were rotating in climates more melodic hardcore / metalcore, here we are dealing with a lot darker and more brutal stuff. This does not mean the total disposal of the melody, but it is given in a different form. Blackened hardcore is probably the best description Ghostchant style . While listening to this rather short material scroll through my head the following names: Hollow Earth , Heaven Shall Burn , Nasum , and even Watain . The songs are very diverse – not lack a climatic redundancies , sinister sounds connected with black metal style (especially in ” Devoid / Disposed ” ), on the other hand blasts and feisty hc / punk motility . All served with extraordinary taste. Also the sound is very decent – without modern sintetics, we can feel the space in batches of two guitars. My favorite track was first published on the web – ” Shards ” . I have listened it pretty much on bandcamp before they left the whole EP and even I can already play it in a memory :) . The nature of this song reminds me of an „Fury” by Nasum , especially because of the dynamics and timbre vocals and way of phrasing . Vocalist operates fairly smoothly throaty and characteristic high screaming / screeching . You can hear that his parts are arranged in a thoughtful manner , without senseless race to fit in a given verse . You can not on this occasion not to mention also of great lyrics, which in a very neat way to express disappointment at the order of the modern world, consumerism, greed , etc. For me it is debut of the year for now and I look forward to more releases Ghostchant.

Black Breath Ask For Donations To Help Injured Drummer

14 lutego 2014 | By | No Comments

blackbreath

The mighty Black Breath are asking for fans to donate to help their drummer Jamie Byrum, who was hit by a car and is currently unable to support himself.

After being hospitalised last month, Jamie will be out of work for at least half a year as a result of the crash, and as such the band are encouraging people to help the drummer out by donating to aGoFundMe.com campaign set up by one of his friends.

The following update was recently posted on the band’s Facebook page:

“People have been asking how they can help Jamie out while he is recovering from getting struck by a car a few weeks back. Some have already helped raise money and others have been inquiring about throwing benefit shows for him, for which we are all humbled and grateful. In addition, a friend of his helped build this website for anyone else who would like to help out. All donations are received with the deepest appreciation, and will help immensely with getting Jamie through this rough period where he is unable to play shows or work or make any sort of living. We plan to buy him an electronic drum kit to play at home until he is well enough to leave his house and start playing the real thing at our practice space, and at some point hopefully sooner than later we will be back with a new LP and live show for y’all.”

Jamie gave the following update on January 16th:

“Back at home after a week in the hospital and feeling good. My leg, which was broken in 4 places after being mauled by a very unthreatening looking car, is healing up well. I still can’t walk, or do much of anything and am currently locked in at my house as I can’t get down my steps! Friends, feel free to stop by anytime, I’m not going anywhere. The next couple months all I have planned is recovering and playing guitar. We have an album to write and I got all the free time so let the fun begin. Would like to extend my deepest gratitude to all the friends and family that have had my back through this fiasco. As well as anyone else sending some PMA my way. It’s unreal as there are too many to mention, but you know who you are! Thank you all! Love you guys…

Stream Kill All The Gentlemen’s New EP Exclusively With Terrorize

14 lutego 2014 | By | No Comments

SinisterExeter’s melodic death metal marauders Kill All The Gentlemen have teamed up with Terrorizer for an exclusive stream of their forthcoming self-titled EP.

The EP was recorded at the prestigious Foel Studios with James Dunkley, and sounds remarkably assured considering it’s the band’s first recorded output to date. We’ll probably be hearing a lot more from these guys over the next few months, as the band are heading to Chris Fielding’s Skyhammer studio end of March to demo some tracks for a full length, which should hopefully see a release this year. Until then however, hit play below and get headbanging…

BEHEMOTH’s NERGAL: ‚Most Of The Music That Is Offered By So-Called Extreme Metal Bands Is Not Extreme

14 lutego 2014 | By | No Comments

BEHEMOTH's NERGAL: 'Most Of The Music That Is Offered By So-Called Extreme Metal Bands Is Not Extreme'

Kim Kelly of The Quietus recently conducted an interview with vocalist/guitarist Adam „Nergal” Darski of Polish extreme metallers BEHEMOTH. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.

On BEHEMOTH‚s tenth album, „The Satanist”:

Nergal: „You probably talk to artists every day that say, ‚Yeah, this album is our best, so on so on,’ so I’m happy to say that I’ll be original here, and say that, no, this is not our best record yet, because that’s not for me to judge. Some people like ‚Demigod’ over anything else, some say ‚Evangelion’ was our best, but people have their own opinions. To me, the bottom line is that ‚The Satanist’ is the most sincere record we’ve ever done. It’s a very organic and very natural album in many ways, and it’s also super dangerous. It’s probably the album that we’re the most satisfied with, which is a unique feat for most artists; usually they’re unsatisfied with themselves. It may be an oxymoron or whatever, but you’re actually talking to a happy artist here! It’s a great record. I love it. It’s not arrogance, it’s passion and it’s love for my own creation and a full acceptance of who we are in our nature.”

On how „The Satanist” compares to other albums in the extreme metal genre:

Nergal: „One of the factors that makes this record so different, and also I really hope it’s something that distances our new record from the majority of extreme metal albums in the market these days, is that most of the music that is offered by so-called extreme metal bands is not extreme. The paradox is that the average extreme metal band these days is just another friendly band, which actually pisses me off, because that’s not how ‚extreme metal’ — black metal, death metal — was meant to be. This is why I don’t listen to them. If I want to listen to some extreme metal, I go to the niche of the genre where bands don’t give a fuck because there’s no money and no business involved, there is no compromise. I’m very much inspired by bands that don’t give a fuck, so you could also call ‚The Satanist’ an ‚I don’t give a fuck’ album! What I’m missing with these ‚extreme metal’ bands is the danger factor in these bands; they try to be friends with everyone, they play blasts all over the place, playing blasts for 45 minutes is just dull, it’s boring. ‚The Satanist’ is about dynamics, and it’s a very diverse record. On one hand, you can say that it’s totally the most sinister album that we’ve ever put out, but at the same time, it’s flirting with genres. There’s a lot of traditional stuff going on, there’s classical hard rock, you can hear it in the leads and some of the riffing and the grooves. It’s not a typical death metal record. I like to think of this album as something very unique. So on one hand, yes, we are part of the genre, we are an integral part of the black metal tradition, and we know where we come from, we have so much respect for our roots, but on the other hand, it’s more than that…”

On the five-month bout of leukemia he overcame in January 2011, after receiving a bone-marrow transplant:

Nergal: „I’ve literally overcome death. I conquered it and I’m happy to sing about that which other bands can only imagine. For them it’s all just speculation, but I’ve actually been there and experienced death, and I hope I’m not going back anytime soon. But, I definitely wanted to share this energy on the new record, because it’s very honest. There’s no bullshit there. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying other bands are bullshit; you can be a poet without graduating university. The whole ‚The Satanist’ concept is all about combining these contrary values that to me complete the picture, and they can coexist. You ask me if I worship death, nowadays it’s obvious to me that I do, because as much as I worship death, I appreciate and celebrate life, and one cannot exist without the other. I won’t be just worshipping death just to elevate my black metal aesthetic. I really hope that I collect a lot of experience and sow it into the music and make BEHEMOTH‚s music more honest. My whole experience just made me be even more honest with the world. We can use fake names and masks and stuff, but somehow it made me feel like I have nothing to hide anymore. Even with all the wardrobe and imagery around the band that is sinister, eerie, and evil, we definitely stand behind what we represent, but to me there’s no contradiction in entering the stage, and when I get into the song ‚Conquer All’, saying ‚It feels great to be alive!’”

On enjoying a level of mainstream celebrity in Poland:

Nergal: „I want to go beyond this heavy metal genre. I know there’s kids that get confused when they see a guy that they look up to and who wears makeup and is this and that in videos and see him in ‚The Voice Of Poland’ jury or in the movie I’ve just started which was a comedy about Nazis called ‚Abassada’ (it was all over cinemas here, and I was one of the main characters), and they may get confused but that’s what I’m all about, confusing people. If they want to define me and have me for themselves, they can sleep well because they will never have that. I won’t be defined. I believe in the fact that human beings are hypercomplex individuals. The fact that I’m a heavy metal musician doesn’t make me go this one and only way; I’m there to be on this path and simultaneously be beyond it. I dwell in several different dimensions, some of them may look weird to you, some may seem to exclude one another, but for me, they do not. To me they complete the full picture of complexity that is this duality of my nature.”

NECROPHAGIA RELEASE NEW TRACK “THE WICKED”

2 listopada 2013 | By | No Comments

necrophagia2

Gore metal maniacs NECROPHAGIA are offering a new track “The Wicked” as a free download at their Bandcamp page. “The Wicked” is an exclusive new song, recorded by the band specifically for release today, and as a thank you for their fans for their patience while the band finished their new album.

NECROPHAGIA are currently putting the finishing touches on a brand new full-length titled ‘White Worm Cathedral‘. A follow up to ‘Deathtrip69‘, ‘White Worm Cathedral‘ will be released by Season of Mist in 2014.

Formed in 1983, NECROPHAGIA were one of the very first death metal bands in the United States. Often considered pioneers in the “Horror Metal” genre, the band gained notoriety after cutting their teeth in the underground by staging ambitious live shows, chalk full of blood, guts and gore. The band went on to receive world-wide acclaim for their 1998 release of ‘Holocausto de la Morte‘, the band’s genre-defining album featuringPANTERA frontman PHIL ANSELMO. Following the landmark album, NECROPHAGIAwent on to release several well-received full lengths and EPs, including the highly-sought-after ‘Cannibal Holocaust‘ EP (2001).
